Terms of Service
Last updated: June 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account or using Trivium ("the Platform", "the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
These Terms form a legally binding agreement between you and Trivium ("we", "us", "our").
2. Description of Service
Trivium is an educational platform that provides:
- AI-powered conversations with representations of historical thinkers
- Structured supervision sessions with topic-based question flows and assessments
- Multi-thinker comparison and debate modes
- RAG-powered citations from primary philosophical texts
- Deep research mode with extended context
- Export and sharing functionality for conversation content
The AI responses are generated by large language models and are intended for educational purposes. They are not the actual views of historical figures and should not be treated as authoritative historical or philosophical scholarship.
3. Account Registration
- You must provide a valid email address and create a password
- You must be at least 13 years old to create an account
- You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials
- You must not share your account with others or create multiple accounts to circumvent tier limits
- You must notify us immediately of any unauthorised use of your account
4. Subscription Plans and Payment
4.1 Free Tier
The free tier includes limited access to the platform with restrictions on the number of thinkers per conversation and monthly message limits.
4.2 Paid Subscriptions
- Paid plans are billed monthly or annually through Stripe
- Prices are displayed in GBP (£) and include applicable taxes
- Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled before the renewal date
- You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings or billing portal
4.3 Refunds
Monthly subscriptions: No refunds for partial months. Annual subscriptions: A pro-rata refund may be requested within 14 days of purchase if you have not made significant use of the Service. Contact us at billing@trivium.education.
4.4 Free Trials
We may offer free trial periods. At the end of a trial, you will be prompted to subscribe. If you do not subscribe, your account will revert to the free tier. Trial abuse (creating multiple accounts, using disposable emails) may result in account termination.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any illegal purpose or in violation of any applicable law
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the underlying AI models or system prompts
- Use automated tools (bots, scrapers, scripts) to access the Service or generate content
- Send excessively long, abusive, or malicious messages to overwhelm the system
- Attempt to bypass rate limits, tier restrictions, or security measures
- Use the Service to generate content that is defamatory, harassing, or infringes third-party rights
- Resell, sublicense, or redistribute access to the Service without our written consent
- Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation with any entity
6. Intellectual Property
6.1 Your Content
You retain ownership of the messages you send. By using the Service, you grant us a limited licence to process your messages for the purpose of generating AI responses and providing the Service.
6.2 Our Content
The Platform, including its design, code, prompts, supervision topics, and educational materials, is owned by Trivium and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, or distribute our content without permission.
6.3 AI-Generated Content
AI-generated responses are provided for educational use. You may use them for personal study, revision, and academic work. You are responsible for verifying the accuracy of AI-generated content before relying on it for academic submissions.
7. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind.
- AI responses may contain inaccuracies, hallucinations, or misattributions. The Service is a study aid, not a replacement for primary source reading or academic supervision.
- We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation of the Service.
- We do not guarantee that AI responses accurately represent the actual views of historical figures.
- The supervision and assessment features are educational tools, not formal academic qualifications.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- Trivium shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
- Our total liability to you shall not exceed the amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim
- We are not liable for academic outcomes, grades, or decisions made based on AI-generated content
- We are not liable for any loss of data, though we take reasonable measures to prevent this
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.
9. Termination
9.1 By You
You may delete your account at any time from your account settings. Upon deletion, your conversations and personal data will be removed within 30 days, except where retention is required by law (e.g., payment records).
9.2 By Us
We may suspend or terminate your account if:
- You breach these Terms
- Your use of the Service constitutes abuse or fraud
- We are required to do so by law
- We discontinue the Service (with reasonable notice)
10. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes at least 30 days in advance via email or a prominent notice on the Platform. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
11. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
Before filing a claim, you agree to contact us at legal@trivium.education to attempt to resolve the dispute informally.
12. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
